Sweet Pebbles was posted as being in the streets in Puerto Vallarta. Apparently she had an owner who threw her to the street. It was suspected she was blind. Thankfully, a woman saw her and protected her. After being evaluated by our vet, he thought she had eye ulcers. She immediately started eye drops but also started antibiotics for erlichea. It’s well known, erlichea, a common tick born illness here, can cause the eyes to have a blue hue.
Within a few days her eyes started to improve. And the good news, she’s not blind! Her left eye still appears a bit blue but we’re hoping with time it too will heal. She’s currently wearing a cone for a small spot on her leg she doesn’t want to stop licking. After being quarantined in a kennel for 10 days, she’s now out with the other pups. Now for the fun part, she gets to learn how to be a happy puppy!
Pebbles has been spayed and has almost completed her vetting protocols. Her right eye still has a little healing to do and we hope it will fully heal. She is a distemper survivor, as evidence by her full body twitches and brown teeth. When puppies get distemper it affects the development of their teeth. As she loses her baby teeth, her adult teeth might be in better shape but could also be permanently stained. She is sweet and playful as can be. Likely she will always have the twitching but it can lessen over time. She should remain small but may not always be “in cabin sized”. She can be applied for now and should be fully ready for adoption by mid-September.
