Male - Mixed Breed

Age: February 2025 | Weight: 15kg & growing…

We were contacted about Kid because he couldn’t walk. A woman had him and his siblings, everyone was fine but him. After seeing our vet, it was determined the tick born illness, erlichea(very common here) was likely the cause of him not being able to walk. His platelets were extremely low and he was anemic. Then shortly after receiving him, he developed a fever and tested positive to parvo. He initially tested negative so it may have been incubating during the first test. He was admitted to the vet and treated. Now, Kid is thriving. His bloodwork is great and he is a very playful puppy. He’s growing well and loves both people and dogs alike. He’s become one of the favorites of everyone at the shelter; a big cuddler! As with most the dogs we rescue, we can’t say how big he will be but likely 40-50lbs, the usual size for Mexican dogs. He can be applied for at anytime! Who can resist those gorgeous eyes?

He had been limping for quite some time, with a back leg. It was casted for about a month, no break, but to try and stabilize it. After the cast was taken off there was no improvement. So, he was put on daily Carprofen. Oct 23, Kid was taken for an evaluation by a vet in Puerto Vallarta. Apparently his back left leg has luxating patella, where the knee cap can slide in and out. He could have surgery however, the vet said the surgery is not always successful. The other options are amputation or leave as is. So for now, we are leaving him as is and keeping him on the meds. Of course he is available for adoption and all treatment options can be discussed with his potential new family.
